Celebrities Who Give Back

The season of giving is here! To celebrate this special time of year, we thought it’d be fun to highlight some of our favorite celebrities who give back to their communities — including a few who focus on a cause near and dear to our hearts: animal rescue.

In today’s blog post, let’s learn about five celebrities who give back to causes ranging from education and healthcare rights to animal rescue and disaster relief.

1. Jennifer Aniston

We have to kick off our list with the one and only Jennifer Aniston! In October, she released Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life, her fourth children’s book about an animated dog named Clydeo. She also launched the Clydeo Fund to support animal rescue organizations around the world. The funds will go to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding forever homes for animals in shelters.

The Friends star owns two rescue pups: Clyde, who inspired her children’s books, and Lord Chesterfield. Of her animal rescue efforts, she recently shared, “I hope that my book, the Clydeo Fund, and all of the future work I will be doing to support these animals will inspire people around the world to consider adopting, fostering, or lending support where they can to animals in need.”

2. Oprah Winfrey

Through the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, the beloved talk show host has donated more than 40 million dollars. She focuses her efforts on helping women and children with both healthcare and education. She also champions young girls in third world countries, where education for females is often discouraged.

3. Ian Somerhalder

In 2010, Ian Somerhalder — best known for his role as Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries — launched the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF). A longtime supporter of animals and the environment, he’s working to open the ISF Animal Sanctuary and create a “safe haven for all outcast animals that have been neglected, mistreated, and, ultimately, misunderstood.” Additionally, in 2021, the foundation gave a one million dollar grant to the Jane Goodall Institute to help its programs that protect and improve the wellbeing of animals and ecosystems around the world.

4. Ellen DeGeneres

There’s no doubt that Ellen DeGeneres is one of our favorite celebrity animal activists! She serves as the co-owner of Halo Animal Rescue in Phoenix, Arizona as well as the co-owner of Halo, Purely for Pets, a company that creates holistic pet products. In 2021, she also created a Facebook game called Joy Kingdom, allowing players to donate to animal charities and raising awareness for anti-animal abuse.

5. Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock focuses much of her giving on disaster relief efforts across the world. She often donates to the American Red Cross, including one million dollars after the tragic 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan as well as another one million dollars after Hurricane Harvey earlier this year. Additionally, she helped to open the Warren Easton Charter High School after Hurricane Katrina; donated 500,000 dollars for wildfire relief in California in 2018; and contributed to the Central Texas Food Bank after the 2021 snowstorm.

At the Urban Dog Group, we pride ourselves on our longtime commitment to animal rescue organizations.

We support Adopt a Pet; Pet Alliance; Pet Pal Animal Shelter; Friends of Strays Animal Shelter; FLUFF Animal Rescue, Inc.; and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tampa Bay. A portion of our proceeds from each transaction goes to our client’s animal rescue charity of choice — so when you find a home, homeless pets in our community do too!
