Relocating to Central Florida? Learn About South Orlando

Updated: Dec 17, 2021

Orlando, The City Beautiful, is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and a wonderful place to live. Whether you’re going to college, raising a family, retiring, or somewhere in between, Orlando offers something for everyone: culture, food, arts, education, sports, jobs, outdoor recreation, fun, sun, and more! Greater Orlando spreads across four counties, including Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole. If you’re relocating to Central Florida, finding the area that will be the best fit for you, your family, and your pets might seem like a challenge, but an experienced realtor like The Urban Dog Group at Coldwell Banker can help you navigate the diverse areas and lifestyles of our city.

In this series, we will be highlighting a different area of Central Florida to show the unique city, suburban, and rural characters of Orlando proper as well as the areas to the north, south, east, and west. As your pet-friendly realtor, we will also include pet-related information, such as dog parks, veterinarians, groomers, and more.

PART 4: SOUTH ORLANDO

In the final installment of our series, we’re excited to highlight South Orlando, an area of Central Florida that’s just minutes away from Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando. Outside of these popular theme parks, residents enjoy the beautiful landscapes, which serve as the perfect backdrop for outdoor fun like zip lines and hot air balloons. Charming downtown areas feature boutique shopping, delicious dining, and lush parks. Shoppers can find just what they’re looking for at The Florida Mall, the largest shopping center in Central Florida with 1.7 million square feet of space, over 250 retail, dining, and entertainment options, and more than 20 million visitors each year. Read on to learn more about two towns in South Orlando: Celebration and Kissimmee.

CELEBRATION

Celebration, located in Osceola County, was established in 1994 with a focus on building a better place and a better way to live. The Walt Disney Company founded The Celebration Company to fulfill this vision and oversee the creation of the town with guidance from the following five principles: a sense of community, a sense of place, a focus on technology, a focus on education, and a focus on health. The nearly 10,000 residents and their pets enjoy 5 large recreational areas with numerous amenities, a Community Center, over 40 neighborhood parks, and more than 26 miles of walking trails. Located about 30 minutes from Downtown Orlando and 20 minutes from Orlando International Airport, citizens can easily venture into the city or enjoy commercial areas in Celebration, including Downtown Celebration and Water Tower Shoppes. Of course, we can’t forget the pet amenities! The dog park, Celebration Unleashed, is for residents and their guests, and registration must be completed for every dog prior to visiting the park. Thanks to the Veterinary Hospital of Celebration, you can trust that your pet will be in good hands no matter what.

KISSIMMEE

Kissimmee is a family-oriented city filled with sunshine and adventure. As the largest city and county seat of Osceola County, close to 70,000 residents call it home. Citizens and their furry friends enjoy a number of public parks, including the Kissimmee Lakefront Park, Makinson Island Park, Babb Park, and Steffe Landing at Shingle Creek, Twin Oaks Conservation Area (a popular place to watch the sunset), and Scotty’s Landing (with a canoe launch, exercise trail, and educational area). For shopping, Kissimmee is proud to offer The Loop, a large outdoor shopping mall with a multiplex theater and stores such as American Eagle Outfitters, Kohl’s, and Best Buy, and Plaza del Sol, a Spanish-style marketplace in the same spot as the former Osceola Square Mall. Your pets will be happy in Kissimmee too! They’ll love the food, pet supplies, and professional grooming available at Woof Gang Bakery.
